2017 Year In Focus

2017 seemed to fly by but I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that way.  The year started on a high note with the Societies of Photographers Convention in January where I was awarded runner up for Pictorial and Fine Art Photographer of the Year for the image that started the Missing series.

2nd place in the Pictorial and Fine Art Photographer of the Year – The Societies of Photographers

I am delighted to share that I have been nominated for the Digital Art Photographer of the Year this year which was a truly unexpected honour.  The results will be announced at the convention dinner in mid January.

Winning the award in 2017 was the start of a whole family of images based on the same idea, that is, self portraits with defining features of the self removed. The gap is filled with various different elements of what it is to be human.  This included looking at time and aging, self compassion, going with the flow, that little bit of magic that hides within us all to name just a few.

I have been deligthed with the positive recognition this series has received through 2017 including

Art Fairs

Cornwall Art Fair was also a highlight for me.  I got to meet so many fabulous art collectors and photography enthusiasts from both the UK and abroad. I hope to be taking part again this year although the date has yet to be confirmed. As soon as that changes I’ll be sure to post the date.

I may add some other art fairs to my schedule this year too so watch this space if you’re interested in attending one of those.  They are held all over the country and feature a really broad variety of wonderful art from painters, sculptors, mixed media artists, illustrators and photographers.

Having an article featured in the Royal Photographic Society Visual Art magazine was an absolute delight for me.  I never expected such an exciting opportunity to come my way in 2017 so I was thrilled with the result and will always treasure this first article featuring a total of seven of my images with The Grip featured on the cover too.

You can view an online feature with Artsy Shark Here too.

Coming up in 2018

So far I have two exhibitions in the calendar for 2018 and I hope this number will grow and give me the opportunity to meet with many more collectors and photography enthusiasts through the course of the year

  • The Royal Photographic Visual Art Exhibition (travelling exhibition starting in Croydon then to Teddington, Bristol (tbc) and the Edinburgh Festival)
  • Blank Wall Gallery Athens – Fine Art Photography Exhibition in February

I will also be preseting a talk at the Bristol Photographic Society on the 14th November and I’ll post more details nearer that date.

I’ll be updating the post Calendar of Events 2018 through the year if you want to keep up to date or sign up to my mailing list below to have it straight into your inbox.
